First block-buster trailer out for a Minecraft Movie

The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie has just been released, giving fans an exciting look at the upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular video game. Earlier this year, rumors suggested that Jack Black and Jason Momoa would star in the film. Now confirmed, both actors lead an adventure through the Overworld, as shown in the debut trailer.

Set to release worldwide on April 4, 2025, the movie stars Jack Black as Steve, Minecraft’s iconic character. Jared Hess directs the film, while Warner Bros. and Legendary handle production. The cast also includes Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.

The trailer shows familiar mobs and locations from the game, including the Overworld, along with sheep, llamas, piglins, and ghasts. The film uses Minecraft’s signature blocky style, with characters entering the cubic world through a mysterious portal.

In the meantime, LEGO Minecraft recently released its first 18+ set, 21265 The Crafting Table, on August 1. The next release, 21281 Baby Pig’s Birthday Celebration, is scheduled for October 1 at £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 for 351 pieces.

While LEGO hasn’t confirmed any sets based on A Minecraft Movie, fans hope to see a Jack Black minifigure soon.

Fans can catch A Minecraft Movie in theaters starting April 4, 2025.
